Drink impairs logic

-

NOT long ago Buffalo City Metro gave in to pressure groups to allow alcohol at Ebuhlanti for “Christmas cheer”.

This ignored the fact that families of drunk drivers have nothing to cheer about when presented with the mangled bodies of their loved ones.

Our feeble response so far has been to plead with the public to practise “responsible drinking”. The problem is that alcohol targets that very sense of responsibility first, tinkering with one’s sense of judgment and perception.

“One for the road!” does not seem like such a bad idea all of a sudden and anyway I can drive darn well with one eye closed.

Anyone arrested for drunk driving in the last two weeks before the year ends should be kept in jail and the cases postponed to the New Year. This might make people think twice about driving drunk. — Wongaletu Vanda, via e-mail

I WISH all the writers who contributed to the Letters to the Editor the best Christmas and best new year.

I have learnt a lot and gained a lot of information from those writing in.

I am now leading a team of sober drivers, who will specialise in driving people out of Ebuhlanti to any place around Buffalo City to stop accidents and help reduce the high death rate in this metro.

The service won’t be free, but costs will be negotiated with the drivers involved. — Mzwandile Mqotyana, via e-mail
