Top acts join forces on tour

Road trip takes in Kei Mouth

- By ROSS ROCHE

AN EXPLOSION of sound is heading to Kei Mouth as one of South Africa’s most successful bands, The Parlotones, along with two of the country’s most exciting up-andcoming acts, Gangs of Ballet and Michael Lowman, prepare to rock the night away next week.

Lowman, South African Music Award (Sama) winners The Parlotones, featuring Kahn Morbee, Neil Pauw and Paul and Greg Hodgson, and Sama nominees Gangs of Ballet, featuring Brad and Josh Klynsmith and Jonathan Rich, will bring their unique sounds to the Xperia Summertones Tour 2015.

“I think Michael has better hair than us and Neil has bigger guns than us,” Brad Klynsmith said.

The jam-packed show takes place next Tuesday at the Bush Pig in Kei Mouth.

It will be the first time these three acts are touring together. “We’ve played shows with both of them in the past, but never toured together,” The Parlotones’ Morbee said.

“We’re looking forward to being on the road together. There’s always something to learn from other musicians.”

This year has seen The Parlotones release their much-celebrated first independent album, Antiques & Artefacts .

While having enjoyed an extensive touring schedule locally and internationally, the band will now cap off a successful 2015 with a tour to remember.

It is not the first time the Parlotones have played in Kei Mouth and they are excited to be back.

“We’ve played in Kei Mouth quite a few times, and it’s always been a blast, we’re hoping to out-do ourselves this year,” Morbee said.

Durban’s finest, Gangs of Ballet, have just released their latest EP, Form and Function.

“This will be our first show in Kei Mouth so it’s hard to have expectations, but asking around it seems like it’s the place to be,” Brad Klynsmith said.

“Apparently the people really get involved. That’s all we need.”

The Xperia Summertones Tour 2015, powered by Vodacom, kicks off at the Wild Coast Sun on Saturday and the tour will take the three acts to some of South Africa’s favourite coastal holiday destinations, concluding at the Kirstenbosch Old Mutual Sessions on January 3.

“We will be playing some old songs, new songs, maybe some borrowed songs, probably no blue songs,” Morbee said.

All three acts played in East London earlier this year, the Parlotones and Gangs of Ballet at the Venue at Hemingways, and Michael Lowman at Legends Showcase Venue in Berea.
