Shortstraw to wow East Cape

- By ROSS ROCHE

POPULAR South African indie pop band Shortstraw are heading this way as their Happy Holiday Summer Tour makes four stops in the Eastern Cape after Christmas.

The five-man band consists of Alastair Thomas, Tom Revington, Gad De Combes, Jake Rubinstein and Russell Grant.

With three shows already under their belts, they will hit another six venues in a row, starting from Sunday as they look to rock in the New Year.

“We are hoping to make some new fans on this tour – playing at holiday destinations – and our goal is to give our fans a night to remember,” De Combes said.

The band will be playing alongside some of the countries most exciting up-and-coming talent, such as Grassy Spark, Al Bairre and Not Bad DJs.

The band will be playing in St Francis and then Port Elizabeth, before making their way to Port Alfred and then Kenton.

“We haven't played in Kenton, but we have played in Port Alfred a few times. It’s so beautiful out there, so we’re excited to go back,” De Combes said.

Shortstraw burst onto the South African music scene with their sophomore album, Good Morning Sunshine, in 2013.

Their follow-up album, Youthless , has also been very well received and the band is well on its way to establishing itself as one of the countries most popular bands.
