Pearl set for stardom with new movie

ACTRESS Pearl Thusi is about to go all Hollywood on us. The Lip Sync Battle Africa host has landed herself a major role on an international film set to be shot in Cape Town later this year‚ and she can’t wait to get started.

The film‚ entitled Blue Mauritius‚ will see Pearl Thusi star alongside local model Nicola Breytenbach and a host of international talent from across the globe.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment this week‚ Pearl says the good news has not yet sunk in.

“This industry has taught me to stay calm and to not get ahead of myself,” Pearl says.

“I think only when the film actually makes its way into cinemas will it all feel real to me. So‚ right now I’m just trying to stay calm‚ even though deep down I’m actually really excited.”

Pearl is set to play the role of Makeda‚ described as a sexy‚ gun toting‚ motorcycle riding woman who works for a German art dealer.

Pearl says she has been hard at work preparing for her role‚ including spending hours in the gym and at the local shooting range.

“It’s been intense. I’ve had to learn how to handle guns correctly and how to shoot. How to ride motorcycles properly and how to defend myself.

“The hardest part has been to get myself into the best possible shape for the role which means a lot more hours in the gym working harder on parts of my body‚” Pearl says.

Pearl says all the hours of preparation will be worth it once filming starts and she simply wants to put Africa on the map.

“My ultimate goal‚ in everything I do‚ is to put Africa on the map. Just like Charlize Theron and Trevor Noah have done before me.”
