Hail top KSD performers

-

THE recent series of Igazi on Mzantsi Magic (Channel 161) and Ashes to Ashes on e.tv (Channel 194) got me thinking. I could not help but notice there were a number of actors from the Mthatha area (read KSD municipality) involved in this wonderful production.

These are high quality actors who have shown they are as capable, if not better, than actors from other provinces and municipalities.

Mnatha Vika (also a gifted tenor singer from Qweqwe location), Vatiswa Ndara (formerly a bank employee in Mthatha), Monwabisi Novuka, popularly known as Jet (from Ngangelizwe Location in Mthatha), Zikhona Sodlaka (from Corana Location near Mthatha) epitomise what one would describe as “actors par excellence”.

Others in other productions include Nambitha Mpumlwana (from Ncambedlana location, Mthatha).

These are seasoned actors who have it all. I am overjoyed at the effort they have put into their acting – in the process making the residents of Mthatha and surrounding areas proud! Congratulations to you all and also those I did not mention!

I have not heard of any recognition, mention, honours or awards for these fabulous actors from our authorities and powers that be. Novuka is a seasoned actor who was part of IBhisho likhaya lam (TV 1) in the late ’80s, acted as the famous Kalamazoo in the Netherlands, and has been an ever present ambassador of the area. Mpumlwana has travelled the world and acted in some top international productions.

Each of these actors is a sterling representation of what this area can produce.

Where is the recognition? Are the authorities waiting for another Black Coffee incident where he was recognised internationally without local awards.

In case I am misunderstood, Nathi Maphumulo (Black Coffee) also spent some of his teenage years at Ngangelizwe Location in Mthatha and still visits the area whenever he gets an opportunity.

The province and KSD municipality must wake up and “smell the coffee”. These actors are our local heroes and need to be given a pat on the back. — Stembele Matotie, Mthatha centenary could give Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe loud and prolonged applause.

Mugabe was responsible for the murder of an estimated 20 000 Zimbabweans with his North Korean thugs. He has ruined one of the better economies in Africa. Millions of Zimbabweans have fled. Foreign direct investment has vanished. He has turned the breadbasket of Africa into a begging bowl.

Can our leaders of tomorrow at the university not see failure when it stares them in the face? — Desmond, via e-mail our systems and seek to speed up service delivery. A loss by the ANC won’t happen as some wish but we are surely going to drop in terms of seat numbers in most municipalities. Divisions within our glorious movement cannot be ignored in order to emerge victorious.

Our task is now to be true to ourselves and stop being denialists and cowards. We need to be harsh on lazy officials and selfish political deployees who see deployment as a ladder to accumulate wealth.

We need to monitor ourselves otherwise we’ll be kissing bye-bye in the 2019 elections.
