DESPITE a career spanning half a decade on the music scene, Toya DeLazy, will only give local fans a taste of a live performance later this year.

The 26-year-old KwaZulu-Natal singer is due to tour Africa later this year in a lead-up to the release of her new album.

“It’s very exciting. It’s going to be the first time – before we never had a show . . . like a Toya DeLazy concert,” she said.

This will be the singer’s first album under De Lazy Entertainment, the production company she started earlier this year, after leaving Sony Music.

The musician is based in London, where she said she was learning from being a part of a global community.

This is not DeLazy’s first foray into the international scene having spent some time in the United States.

“I was in New York and LA but it was way too vast. I met too many people who were promising too much stuff,” she said.

De Lazy said she had always wanted to go international.

Last week the singer gave fans a taste of her upcoming production, with a release of the music video Nu High.

She described her latest sound as more rock and roll and mature and believes that her fans will love it. “It’s energy man,” she said.

DeLazy said shooting the video took her out of her comfort zone.

It included the singer having to wear a dress in public, which is “not my thing”.

Her album, due for release later this year will include collaborations with other artists, including English singer and rapper, Example.
