EL singer moving on to spread her wings

SOUL singer Ikhona Pahlane will give East London a final taste of her music before she heads for the City of Gold in pursuit of greener pastures.

The Ngqeleni-born singer, who is getting married this month, will hold her last show in the province on Saturday at Legends Showcase.

Pahlane said her show, titled African Song, would serve as the official launch of her debut single, Imijelo.

“This is also to give people a sneak preview of what’s to come from my debut album,” she said.

The Walter Sisulu University (WSU) journalism graduate said it was time for her to move to Johannesburg for growth.

“I believe I have explored every avenue in East London and it is now time for me to move on to the bigger city.

“There are more opportunities that side and it is a risk that I am willing to take to expand my brand,” she said, adding that there were still a lot of things that she needed to learn in the music industry.

Pahlane said she has always known she wanted to be a singer but her parents would not allow her to pursue a career in music.

“I remember in 2010 I applied for every single course there is out there because my parents did not understand this music desire that I have.

“I got accepted at WSU and thought, why not do journalism. I graduated and took the diploma back home and focused on my music,” she said.

Since starting her diploma in 2011, Pahlane has been performing at various events in East London.

Pahlane said she would be moving to Johannesburg with her soon-tobe husband, Moosa Zwide, who runs an events and entertainment company.

“I’ve always been skeptical of getting signed and that is why we agreed that the company would then launch my music career,” she said.

Catch Pahlane this Saturday at Legends Showcase from 5pm. Tickets for the event cost R100 and are available at Lee Gold. —
