Rulashe in false ad claim
NANZIWE Rulashe, the controversial former Amathole district municipality (ADM) councillor arrested with former ADM mayor Nomasikizi Konza, has been accused of using the names and images of two well-known musicians without their permission.
Rulashe and Konza were arrested by the Hawks in May on suspicion of involvement in swindling more than R2-million from ADM for the Miss Amathole Heritage beauty pageant last year. They are both out on bail. This week Rulashe, a founder of Amathole Heritage Foundation, was accused of using the names of two popular musicians to promote a pageant taking place this weekend without contracting them.
Rulashe’s foundation will host the 2016 leg of Miss Amathole Heritage in Alice. A poster advertising the event lists popular artists such as Nathi Mankayi, Bethusile Mcinga, Dumza Maswana, Lundi and Butho Vuthela.
However, two of the artists said they had not agreed to perform.
Delphine Klassen, a booking agent at Muthaland Entertainment, which manages Nathi, yesterday accused Rulashe of “false” advertising saying they had learnt through social media that Nathi was supposedly performing.
“We were never contracted for such event, no quote was made and no deposit paid.
“We do not even know who those organisers are.”
Bethusile said that despite his face appearing on the poster he was not booked to perform.
Vuthela and Maswana confirmed they were booked. The other artists could not be reached.
Rulashe yesterday denied the allegations saying she had spoken to Nathi’s “management team”.
“I am still waiting for a quote from their side.”
She said Bethusile will not be performing “but might just give us a song when we award him”.
Rulashe is no stranger to controversy. The Dispatch previously reported that finalists in last year’s beauty pageant felt cheated out of their promised winnings. —
