‘Please, back off on revenge talk’

Komphela cautions Maritzburg

REVENGE can be a slippery slope to hell and Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has warned his former employers Maritzburg United to resist the urge to go down this path ahead of a meeting between the two sides at Soccer City on Saturday.

Chiefs and United are developing a fierce rivalry that was kicked up a notch after Komphela left the KwaZulu-Natal club to join the glamour Naturena outfit last year.

The Telkom Knockout draw has ensured a resumption of hostilitie­s and Chiefs host United in a Telkom Knockout Last 16 encounter.

A philosophi­cal Komphela said he prefers to concentrat­e on his job rather than obsess over whether the visitors still hold grudges.

‘‘With me I try not to be a man of vengeance‚” said Komphela.

‘‘If you do things seeking vengeance‚ you will never achieve what you want. Even at the back of such an achievemen­t‚ you will still remain a bitter man. So all that I do is get on with my business‚ I am profession­al.

‘‘I accept the fact that I worked with them and I know they are eager to do that‚ but be careful that it doesn’t happen.”
