Bucks ready to focus on scoring goals

Finishing will be key today

- By ZINGISA MVUMVU

FINISHING took the spotlight at the Mthatha Bucks training sessions this week ahead of their crunch NFD encounter with Mbombela United at the Mthatha Stadium at 3.30pm today.

This was said by Bucks' goalkeeper coach Postnet Omony who said their biggest downfall in the four previous matches – all winless – was failure to convert in front of goal.

For this reason, Omony said they were going all out for maximum points. And indeed they do need three points, for failing to get it may see them going back to their old selves – relegation dwellers.

As things stand, Bucks, although in eighth place, are only separated by three points with second last Cape Town All Stars.

Omony believes Bucks will merge victors, maintaining that they did not play badly when they suffered a 1-0 defeat against All Stars last weekend.

“We are playing at home therefore going all out we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that we turn the tables around from our previous result” he said.

“The guys gave it their all even last weekend but could not score. This time we want to reignite that energy but score and win.”

Okay good intentions but where exactly they will get these goals from is unclear as their two marksmen Petrus Ngebo and Andile Njokweni are struggling to find their rhythm.

Omony said the duo have been bouncing in and out of the team due to injuries, emphasising that Bucks were not looking only at the two for goals.

As much as Bucks are desperate, they meet an equally desperate Mbombela who are languishing in 13th place, a far cry from title contenders last season.

Right, there is a dangerous Mbombela and Omony said they were well aware of how aggressive the visitors will be.

“Besides being a side which is aggressive going forward, their players have been together for some time and therefore know each other. “However we will just take what they impose on us like any other team, do our best in responding and hope to come out with a positive result.”

The Mthatha side have found the back of the net eight times while leaking seven times.

On the face of it this does not look too bad a statistic but it is the three points that count and Bucks have dropped 10 in their last four outings.

Omony said not all was lost as they still aimed to bounce back and compete for the title.

Both sides who meet today have lost twice, with Bucks recording two wins and two draws whereas Mbombela have managed three draws plus a solitary victory.

Elsewhere in the First Division today, same time, Santos welcome Thand Royal Zulu at Athlone Stadium while FC Cape Town travel to Lidoda Duvha at the Thohoyandou Stadium and Royal eagles play hosts to Magesi FC at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Tomorrow: AmaTuks V Witbank Spurs, EzeNkosi V All Stars, Usuthu V Stellebosch United and Milano United V Real Kings.
