Border’s best excited to represent SA in India

- By ROSS ROCHE

TOP Border women’s golfer Zethu Myeki jets to India today ahead of her representing South Africa at the 100th India Amateur Golf Championship.

The tournament runs from next week Monday to Saturday and will see Myeki, along with Gauteng North’s Danielle du Toit, as the two South Africans in the mix.

“It is quite an honour to be representing your country so I am going to do the best that I can,” said Myeki.

Myeki and Du Toit were selected by Women’s Golf South Africa to take part in the tournament after both girls narrowly missed out on selection for the World Amateur Team Championships.

With Myeki ranked as the number three amateur women’s golfer in the country and Du Toit fourth, they will want to impress in India.

“I want to do well but I’m not expecting anything over there. I am just going to play my normal game and see how it goes,” said Myeki.

Myeki has enjoyed a solid year on the circuit in SA and although not picking up many wins, she has consistently placed at the top of most of the major golfing tournaments around the country.

Her last outing was at the Mpumalanga Open at the end of November where she placed joint second alongside Du Toit. The country’s top amateur women’s golfer, Kajal Mistry, edged them by two strokes.

“The year has not gone as I was expecting but I have placed well in a lot of tournaments,” said Myeki.

“At the Mpumalanga Open I could have played better but it was a good tournament in the end and I am happy with finishing second there.”

The India competition will be Myeki’s last event for the year and she will enjoy a small break before getting back into the swing of things in 2017.

“My first tournament is the Eastern Province Open in February and then I will be playing regularly again.”

Myeki leaves from Johannesburg today and will be in action from Monday.

Border golf is extremely excited to monitor her progress and see if she will shine on the Indian sub-continent.

“The Border ladies’ golf executive is proud of Zethu’s achievements and wish her all the best,” said Border ladies’ golf president, Wendy May.
