Central lay building blocks for another great season with poll

THE EAST London Central LFA will be hosting its second Elective Congress this Saturday at the North End stadium.

According to current general secretary Burton Brown it is all systems go for the new season.

“We attended a very fruitful interlocal football associatio­n meeting in George this past Saturday which involved LFAs from the Western Cape, Kimberley and Eastern Cape,” said Brown.

Continued Brown: “It was confirmed at this meeting that Northern Areas LFA shall host the 10th Edition Frank Ownhouse/Gakeem Abrahams Memorial Inter-provincial Inter-LFA Tournament in Port Elizabeth from October 4-7. There are also some exciting challenges that emanated from this meeting which we plan to share with our clubs at our Elective Congress on Saturday.”

EL Central have received a number of new club applicatio­ns which include former great North End clubs such as Merchants, Santa Rosa and Alphendale United.

The officebear­ers club nomination­s for the next four years have seen Gavin van Rooyen (chairman), Shane Benny (vice-chairman), Burton Brown (secretary), Lazolo Poyo (assistant secretary), James Alexander (treasurer), George Smith (assistant treasurer), Charles Pretorius (technical director), Vuyo Zambodla (youth chairman), Marvin Franz (legal and constituti­onal affairs chairman), Avril Adams (referees chairman), Ivan Booysen (competitio­ns director), Calvin Brown (disciplina­ry committee chairman) and Charlene Smith (assistant competitio­ns director) nominated unopposed.

Warren Vengadajel­lum and Graham Lottering will contest the vacant deputy chairman’s seat while Darian Hendricks and Rochelle Kroutz have been nominated for the assistant technical director’s portfolio.

The first competitio­n of the new season, the Mark Alexander-sponsored third edition Premier Top 8 is set to take place from March 4.

The new league season will commence on March 15.

EL Central have included in this season’s programme the Flavio Sherwin Esbend U8 Academy, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20, promotiona­l and super 12 premier league competitio­ns as well as the second edition Masters and Industrial Leagues.

Brown said that they were hoping that the EL Central Ladies League concept will also gain momentum in 2017.
