Top singer Yves ready to thrill audience at ECMAs

- By POLISWA PLAATJIE

AFRO-soul singer Yves is set to dazzle the masses at the Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAs) taking place in two weeks at the Abbotsford Christian Centre.

Yves, whose real name is Yvonne Manxeba, said she could not wait to perform in her home province on February 25 where other well-known musicians will be sharing the stage.

Manxeba is expected to perform alongside Mthatha-born musician Nathi, Ntando, Crown gospel Betusile Mcinga, Berita, Khanyisa, Lil G, Mashava, Butho and Yolanda Vuthela.

“I believe that before we can take on big stages like the Metro [Metro FM Music Awards] or Samas [South African Music Awards] we need to start at home,” said the Johannesburgbased singer.

Manxeba first came into the limelight when she entered Idols SA in 2010.

Although she only made it to the top 32, Manxeba said the singing competition gave her the push she needed in the music industry.

Three years later she released her debut album titled, 7even.

Since then, she has made television appearances and performed in a number of music festivals.

The Butterworth-born singer said she was currently working on a second album due to be released later in the year.

“I thought I would have my sophomore album out last year but 2016 was a bad year for me. I left the label I was signed under and I also lost my mother.

“I didn’t want to continue making music but I knew that’s not what my mother would have wanted for me.

“She was always supportive towards my music and that is why I decided to get up and do something she would have been proud of. This year is already looking great for me. There are a number of projects lined up and I am excited,” she said.

After ending her marketing and distribution deal with Universal Music, Manxeba said she was currently working as an independent artist.

“If I could get a deal that suits me, then I would sign a deal with a recording label but for now I am doing this on my own,” she said.

Manxeba said she was working with DJ Clock promoting their single titled If I lose myself.

Catch Manxeba at the Eastern Cape Music Awards on February 25. Tickets for the event cost R190 and are available at Computicket. —
