Love on the stage

-

‘LUVPLAY’ is this year’s Valentine’s Cabaret presented at the Alexander Playhouse in Cambridge, East London, from today (Valentine’s Day) through to Saturday.

The show, presented by The Dramatic Society (Dramsoc) of East London, celebrates the experience of love through the medium of evergreen love songs from a repertoire of hits – present and past.

Audiences can expect a night of romance as iconic love scenes from famous plays such as Romeo and Juliet and A Streetcar Named Desire provide comment on man and woman’s continuous search for everlasting love.

The show is directed by local theatre practitioner, Pieter Taljaard ( Gonubie Passion Play, The Glass Menagerie). Taljaard teams up again with musical director, Jo Stemmet, (Back to the 80s) creating a gem for theatre lovers over Valentine’s week.

The ensemble of well-loved local performers include Marcel Corson ( Back to the 80s, Gonubie Passion Play), Charné van den Berg, Cameron McEwan and Lincoln du Preez. Joining the cast once again, are Renate Webber and Larry van der Walt ( Timeless, Gonubie Passion Play) providing world-class renditions of Italian favourites such as Time To Say Goodbye.

Natasja Botha (King and I) returns to the stage again with her enigmatic voice to wow audiences.

Kristin Deetlefs returns to the Alexander stage as an accomplished performing arts student fresh from Tswane University of Technology’s famous musical theatre department.

Dramsoc is also proud to introduce audiences to local singer Lloyd Peter, ( Gonubie Passion Play) who will be making his debut on the Alexander stage.

Tickets can be booked at Lee Gold Music and are R130 (including a light meal) for today’s and Friday’s shows. Shows on Wednesday and Saturday are R80 (without a meal). Patrons are reminded to bring their own drinks and glasses.
