Appeal to help disturbed resident
and began shouting insults at people outside his home before denting at least two cars with rocks.
Kristin Holloway said her husband Shaun and fatherin-law Cedric Holloway were driving up Albatross road when they saw Weyer standing in the middle of the road brandishing a pipe.
“They got out of the car to speak to him because they have known him for years, but he screamed and shouted and told my husband he is a marked man,” she said.
“Then he threw what smelt like pool acid at them from a two-litre cooldrink bottle. My husband can’t see from one swollen eye and the ophthalmologist said this could last four or five days.
“My father-in-law has a burning throat. He [Weyer] has a medical problem – none of us is qualified to deal with him.”
The Holloways laid a charge of assault and grievous bodily harm at the Gonubie police station on Friday morning.
When the Daily Dispatch arrived at Weyer’s home with its graffiti-covered walls and “kraal” of branches yesterday morning, an agitated Weyer was standing outside wearing an open overall jacket, black shorts and wielding a pipe.
One eye was swollen and dried blood encrusted a head wound and trailed down his chest.
In contrast to the mayhem was a beautifully tended vegetable garden.
Weyer said he gave “people” and the church vegetables. “All I do is good to others,” he said.
He blamed a “cult” for setting fire to his home and said members were plotting to “torch” the rest of it and that residents had “smashed” him up.
“People say I burned my house, but why would I burn my own dream? I’ve been through hell. My father was 86. I don’t know what happened to him.
“These people want me locked up. I don’t trust anyone anymore.”
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said three cases against Weyer had been opened – two of assault and one of malicious damage to property.
She said an arrest was “imminent”. — barbarah@dispatch.co.za
