World premiere of sporty SUVs
MAKING their debut in a double premiere on the eve of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) were the sportiest midsize performance SUVs to date bearing the three-pointed star: the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé as well as the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz provided an exclusive glimpse of the new S-Class Saloon, which celebrates its world premiere on Tuesday at the Auto Shanghai.
Mercedes-AMG opened up a whole new market segment back in 1999 with its combination of high-performance engine clad in SUV bodywork.
With its new midsize performance SUVs, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé as well as the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé, the sports car brand is once again occupying a very special role in the competitive arena.
“The new Mercedes-AMG SUVs are the very essence of automotive freedom. Our SUVs show that Mercedes-Benz feels completely at home off the beaten track.
“This sense of adventure is one of the reasons why customers value our brand so highly,” Daimler AG board Seeger said.
“We have sold more than four million SUVs worldwide to date. They now make up around onethird of our global sales.”
The new AMG midsize performance SUVs also occupy a very special position in their market segment in terms of technology. “At their heart is our 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine,” Mercedes-AMG GmbH CEO Tobias Moers said.
“With it, the GLC 63 offers amazing performance under all conditions – aided by an array of other hi-tech features, including our AMG 9-speed sports transmission member Britta and our new all-wheel drive system.”
A new and distinctive design feature of the new GLC 63 is the AMG Panamericana grille, which was previously reserved for the AMG GT family.
Mercedes-Benz also offered an exclusive glimpse of the new SClass Saloon. A host of innovations in efficiency, comfort and automated driving make the Mercedes-Benz flagship even better. The result is the most extensive facelift in the long history of the SClass that sees the inventor of the automobile open up a whole new dimension of driving.
