Conor can be on ‘Money’ – Holmes

-

NOT too many people are giving UFC superstar Conor McGregor a realistic shot to defeat former five division world champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr.

But one of those people who give McGregor a real shot is heavyweight legend Larry Holmes.

McGregor, regarded as one of the best MMA fighters in the world, will make his boxing debut against Mayweather on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather, who retired back in September 2015, is coming back for one final fight.

Because of McGregor’s inexperience, he is tabbed as a massive underdog and most believe the fighter is going to be dominated from start to finish – even with Mayweather being 40-year-old and inactive for two years.

He cautions that nobody should be overlooking the possibility of McGregor pulling off the upset.

“Don’t sell McGregor short,” Holmes said to the Bald Faced Truth Radio Show. “He doesn’t have to do too much to win. All he has to do is get him in the corner and bang him. Put his hands up over his head, get down low, keep coming in and throw punches once you ropes.”

Holmes believes Mayweather, now older and inactive, will do a lot of holding to disrupt McGregor’s pace and game plan. He says McGregor needs to stay focused, continue to apply pressure on the inside and let his hands go.

“He’s going to tie him up and try to hit him on the break. [McGregor has to] put his hands up, stay right on top of him and keep him from hitting him. It’s going to be an interesting fight. People are selling [McGregor] short,” said Holmes. — boxingscene.com get him against the
