Despite health scare the champ wants that title

-

HE MAY be lying in a hospital bed after a health scare but newlycrowned Eastern Cape flyweight champion Simnikiwe Combo is still gunning for the national title.

While his memory is gradually returning following his collapse in the ring after his title winning effort over Nkosikhona Speelman at Mdantsane Indoor Centre, he has not lost sight of who he is gunning for.

“I want to challenge Nxoshe [Thembelani] and wrest that SA title away from him,” he said.

“There is nothing I want more than to face Nxoshe in the ring.”

Combo is still being kept at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital where he was admitted shortly after slipping into a coma on Sunday.

Doctors reportedly said he is swollen on the head but the decision to operate him has been shelved for now.

Boxing SA-Eastern Cape manager Phakamile Jacobs said the boxer would be seen by a neurologist as part of his treatment.

On Tuesday BSA chief executive Tsholofelo Lejaka paid Combo a special visit and the boxer confirmed his returning memory by recognising Lejaka.

The 22-year-old, who was fighting for the eighth time with just two losses, will have all his medical expenses paid for by BSA as part of the policy cover for licensees.

Jacobs said after his release from hospital Combo will undergo several neurological treatment including brain scan all paid for by BSA. — Boxing Mecca
