It’s flexing time for the muscle brigade at Guild

“The regional executive committee is then selecting an entire provincial team from these original championsh­ips to represent the Eastern Cape at the SA Champs taking place from September 1-3.

“A national team will then be picked at the SA champs and athletes who take part in it will also receive their national colours.”

The competitio­n is thus expected to be fierce with some of the regions best athletes expected to go all out for major honours This includes former Mr South Africa Michael Adonis who will be heading a host of brilliant talent alongside the likes of Mveliso Tapi and Thulasizwe Sifatyi, that will also include the best university talent as well.

Majeke is unsure yet if 2016 champion Larnelle Fredericks will be back to defend his title, so if he does not we could have a new champion.

“The Eastern Cape Universiti­es as well as national institutio­ns of higher learning will also take part in these vice-president original championsh­ips which is exciting,” said Majeke.

“We also have some of the best bodybuilde­rs in the region taking part and it is going to be a championsh­ip of the highest calibre.”

In all 22 categories across the men’s and women’s divisions will be competed on the night.

On the men’s front the junior section will see the teenage men’s U16, teenage men’s U18 and junior men’s U23 under and over 75kg categories battled out along with the men’s physique, up to and over 178cm, Masters (40-49 years old) and Veterans (50-59 years old).

The flyweight (under 60kg), bantamweig­ht (under 65kg), lightweigh­t (under 70kg), welterweig­ht (under 75kg), light-middleweig­ht (under 80kg), middleweig­ht (under 85kg), light-heavyweigh­t (under 90kg), heavyweigh­t (under 100kg) and super(over 100kg) then round out the men's division.

The women's side will see the Beach Bikini Fitness, Junior Fitness Bikini, Miss Fitness Bikini, Miss Fitness Bikini over 35 years old, Ladies Body Fitness, Ladies Classic and Women's Physique Categories competed.

Athlete entry fee for the champs is R150. The weigh-in will take place at the Guild Theatre tonight from 5pm to 8pm.

The action then gets under way tomorrow morning with pre-judging with athletes arriving by 8am for a 9am start.

The main show then gets under way from 4pm and will feature some exciting acts as well as some topclass bodybuildi­ng action.

“It is always a wonderful night and fans will be in for a fantastic show, so we are looking forward to what is going to be great night,” claimed Majeke.

Tickets for the show are available from the Guild Theatre and Computicke­t, with entry to the pre-judging costing R50 and entry for the main show R150.

A fantastic night is on the cards and all spectators from across the region are welcome.
