Total Beacon Bay back in business after long closure
IT’S business as usual at the Total Beacon Bay fuel station which recently started operating again after closing dramatically a year ago when its pressurised underground tank broke, pushing 70 000 litres of fuel into the earth.
The filling station at the entrance to Retail Park was closed for rehabilitation and reconstruction in August last year.
The multimillion-rand construction project was awarded to UCS Technological Services as the main contractors and Thomo Development for canopy removal and installation.
The Daily Dispatch published several reports with regards to the leakage which caused an environmental hazard.
Total SA brand and public relations officer Nadia Vosloo said the filling station would host an official, public opening next week.
“As soon as the leak was discovered in August, Total South Africa initiated a number of ongoing communication initiatives with interested and affected stakeholders, including the relevant authorities, management of the Beacon Bay Retail Park and its tenants.
“In the normal course of our business, we let a revamped service station operate for approximately three weeks before we do an official opening.
“This allows for us to iron out any teething problems that could arise. The official opening of Total Beacon Bay will take place on Friday and Saturday.”
Vosloo added: “All the initial staff members have been reinstated except for two, who, despite having received communication, decided not to return.”— mbalit@dispatch.co.za
