Man goes to police after wife’s death
AN MDANTSANE man has handed himself over to police after he allegedly shot and killed his wife on Saturday.
The incident happened at the township’s NU3. East London police spokeswoman, Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala yesterday confirmed the incident, saying a case of murder was being investigated by Mdantsane detectives.
“We can confirm that the suspect handed himself over to the police after the incident. The woman later died in hospital,” said Mqala.
● In Willowvale police have arrested a 22-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm. Butterworth police spokesman, Captain Jackson Manatha said the suspect was arrested yesterday. “The suspect was arrested on Sunday at about 3am at Nkxankxashe Village, Willowvale,” said Manatha.
He said the suspect did not produce the licence for the firearm. “The firearm will be sent for ballistic test to establish if it had been used in the commission of crime,” he said.
The suspect is due to appear in the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court today.
● In East London, Cambridge police spokesman, Captain Mluleki Mbi said the police, as they were closing the Women’s Month events, had called for zero tolerance on crime against children, the vulnerable and women.
Mbi said the event, held at the Gcobani community hall in Cambridge was attended by a number of government departments and non-governmental organisations. “Representing the provincial police commissioner, LieutenantGeneral Liziwe Ntshinga, the King William’s Town cluster Commander Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga reassured the communities that crime affected everyone and the police would fight for the community, said Mbi.
