- By BONGANI FUZILE

KING William’s Town police charged a 33year-old man with the murder of his wife after he handed himself over to the police on Saturday.

The Breidbach man went to the police after angry residents threatened to torch his mother’s home.

King William’s Town police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa confirmed this, saying the police had been stoned by residents.

“After hearing that angry residents were threatening to burn down a house belonging to the mother of the suspect, police raced to the area and spoke to the angry crowd.”

After some negotiations, the suspect later handed himself over.

“He has since been charged with murder,” said Mawisa.

The suspect allegedly killed his wife and hid her body under a bed for five days in their shack. He fled from police last week when they were questioning him.

The body of the victim, Carmelitta King Baatjies, was discovered by police. The suspect is expected to appear in the King William’s Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. —
