Mega US bout for Mchunu
BOXING returns to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville when Thabiso Mchunu of KwaZulu-Natal faces Constantin Bejenaru in a cruiserweight bout on November 25.
Bejenaru (12-0, 3 KOs) is coming off two quality victories over Stivens Bujaj and Alexey Zubov.
A native of the Eastern European country, Moldova, Bejenaru is a quick-handed aggressive fighter who has not fought since a dominant victory against Bujaj in his last fight last November.
Mchunu (18-3, 13KO’S) is no stranger to big fights having challenged Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO cruiserweight title, but losing by a ninth round stoppage last December.
He has rebounded with a dominant win over compatriot Johnny Muller (20-8-2) this past June.
Mchunu holds a victory over Eddie Chambers which also took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in 2013.
Bejenaru had this to say about his upcoming fight: “The Bejenaru Team is facing a world-class boxer who fought for a world title. This fight is a great opportunity for me to move up in the world rankings and a step closer to the world title. I’m in great shape and ready to put on a great performance.”
Mchunu of Cato Ridge had these comments: “I’m very grateful for this opportunity. It’s more than that it’s a dream. There’s plenty of action in the division now. Winning is not negotiable if I’m to reawaken my ambition of winning a world title. I look forward to putting on a great show.”
Promoter Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing said: “This is a top-notch fight between two top cruiserweights looking to place themselves in the world championship picture.
“With the cruiserweight tournament presently taking place the winner of this fight will be in an excellent position to challenge for the world title.
“I’m looking for an outstanding fight between these two young men.” — Boxing Mecca
