Body of woman found at shopping mall
A SHOPPER sobbed, feeling traumatised, when she returned to her car in Vincent Park shopping centre and found the body of a woman lying on the tar.
The dead woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found in the undercover parking section of Vincent Park shopping mall in East London yesterday.
Vincent Park general manager Joseph Parsley said it was still too early to tell whether the woman died at the mall or her body was dumped there. “We are assisting the police with everything at the moment. We are still waiting for them to give us a report of how the woman died but we believe she was dumped here.”
Parsley said the mall had more than 1 500 parking bays.
The Dispatch saw the body lying uncovered while police forensic experts were still readying themselves. There were no visible wounds or blood.
The woman was wearing a red skirt and black top.
The body was lying next to Wendy Mbanjwa’s car from NU1 in Mdantsane.
“When I parked on that spot there was no body. I was shocked to come back from shopping to find two security guards standing near my car preventing people from getting closer to the body.”
A traumatised Mbanjwa said she cried hysterically. “I got inside my car and sat there crying.”
Parsley said the gruesome discovery was made by a customer at 11.30am.
Asanda Nkonki, whose white BMW sedan was parked a few metres from the body, said she was shocked to find the area had turned into a police scene.
“I went inside the mall to do some shopping and withdraw some money, and when I came back at 12.55pm the area was covered with police and cordon tape.”
Mdantsane police spokesman Captain Nkosikho Mzuku, said the circumstances surrounding the incident were unknown. “We are still waiting for an autopsy to be conducted.” Mzuku said anyone with information about the incident was to contact the investigating officer, Constable Chumani Mntumni on (043) 709-7500 or 071-475-1693. —
