EL folk singer grooves at C-Club
FROM getting more than 100 000 views on YouTube to coastal tours and TV performances, East London’s indie folk singer Jason Gladwin is experimenting with various sounds in his upcoming extended play (EP).
The singer, who released his debut album titled Untamed in 2016, has performed in numerous festivals around the province and has done performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
This Saturday, Gladwin will be in the line-up of the first ever Palms Festival taking place at the C-Club in Chintsa East.
The weekend’s lineup consists of 5FM chart-topper, Ben Dey, and The Concrete Lions for a solo acoustic performance, Wez Thatch and Dynamic Sounds.
Gladwin has had the opportunity to play alongside leading South African bands and artists such as The Parlotones, Al Bairre, Jeremy Loops, The Plastics, Matthew Mole, Majozi, Crash Car Burn, Prime Circle, Dance You’re On Fire and Dan Patlansky.
His debut single, Keep Warm, earned him more than 120 000 views on YouTube.
The singer said he was currently in recording some new material. “I’ve completed three tracks already. I will also be recording a song with Ben when he is down this weekend as a collaboration,” he said.
Gladwin said he was going into the studio with an open mind and would be exploring other genres of music.
“If a song is leaning towards a certain genre that I’m not familiar with, I’m not going to pull in the reigns and try box it up. I’ll let it flow the way it needs to,” he said.
While the singer is working on new material, he said he would not be releasing a full album any time soon.
“I was thinking about rather putting all my efforts in five really good songs than spreading my time and writing thin across a full album,” he said.
