Lawyer leaves ADM murder trialist in lurch

THE family of murdered Amathole District Municipality employee Thandi Mlambo broke down in tears when her alleged killer and former colleague, Nomfundiso Ngqangashe, appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The court was packed to capacity for her first appearance.

Ngqangashe, 40, worked with Mlambo at the ADM offices in Chiselhurst, East London.

Mlambo’s body was found in the Vincent Park mall parking lot in December. The motive of the killing is still not known. Ngqangashe was arrested on Monday after the police found evidence linking her to the murder.

Wearing a red and white floral dress, the murder accused, who is an ADM administrator at the corporate services department, seemed confused as to what was happening in court.

She made a brief appearance at A court, where she was told to go to B court for a bail application.

However, her unnamed lawyer, who had been present at A court, did not arrive at B court and the accused just stood expressionless when magistrate Siyabulela Phango asked where he was.

She eventually said she did not know his name. When a prosecutor asked the people in the court gallery to be patient, they shouted “Lock her up, she is a danger to society!”

The case was postponed to next Thursday for the bail application.

Ngqangashe remains in custody.
