Steve Hofmeyr to perform at Guild Theatre
CONTROVERSIAL Afrikaans platinum-selling singer, songwriter, actor, author and activist Steve Hofmeyr will be bringing his funky tunes to the Guild Theatre today.
The singer recently released his 30th album. His previous double-platinum release was one of South Africa’s best sellers for 2016 and now his army of supporters can look forward to Skree, his latest original album for this year.
“I felt like writing again, and Skree is the result,” he said. Hofmeyr has recently done an international show in Australia and New Zealand.
The 30th album release is not the only new thing happening in Hofmeyr’s life as he has a new book out. The book, titled Die Onaantasbares (The
Untouchables), is his sixth novel. “Boredom and I are incompatible,” he said. The Pretoria-born muso has entertained the world for three decades, and his creativity knows no bounds. He started as a young rocker in movies, musicals and television, in shows such as Agter Elke Man, Kampus, No Hero, Dis Hoe Dit Is, Platteland, Pretville and Treurgrond, to mention
just a few.
“I don’t need to win. I just need to be heard. And once we master this, I believe in the greatest country on earth, South Africa,” he said.
The latest film he featured in was Treurgrond ,a movie that tells the painful story of a farming community in South Africa trying to survive farm attacks confronting farmers almost every day.
The gruesome acts affect everyone related to the victims, but also set in motion a chain of events.
Tickets for his show tonight range between R140 and R160 and are available from Computicket and the Guild Theatre. The show starts at 8pm.
