Cathcart needs attention

-

I am from Cathcart. I have serious concerns about the state of this forgotten town which falls under the Amathole Municipality. It is so forgotten such that its habitants have given up hope that anything will ever be done to save the situation.

We had a previous mayor who was disgraceful person to call our own because during her tenure she neglected the same ghost town while she sought to cut her political career.

We have now a district mayor apparently doing nothing to rescue the situation in Cathcart.

One has to ask why these people draw salaries and what is it that they actually do as public officebearers.

People of this ghost town – once a glorious place – have no jobs, service delivery is @ZERO, the place itself has not been developed for ages now, and it is turning into a den of crime and hopelessness for young people who roam around the street waiting for the weekends to go to shebeens.

The Bill of Rights, chapter 2 of our constitution enshrines the right to adequate and equal service to our people. Yet we have no jobs, no proper housing and some places have no sanitation.

What have we done to the Eastern Cape government to deserve such treatment?

One of the wards has a councillor who is involved in other activities.

I would like to know how communities that have no ward committee structures are supposed to be relating to councillors, and how on earth can these councillors be acting to serve the people who have trusted them with their well-being?

I, for one, am available to assist in making a difference in my hometown. Let us stop being selfish and taking advantage of poor destitute people and be of service to them.

Please note, CATHCART NEEDS ATTENTION!!! – Luyanda Gwadela, Cathcart
