Red carpet shows fashion at its best
WHETHER it is the State of the Nation Address by the president or the state of the province, fashion forms part of it.
This year’s State of the Province Address (Sopa) in Bhisho yesterday was no different.
For a moment, the event turned into a fashion affair as guests posed for photos on the red carpet.
MECs, MPLs and invited guests lived up to the standard of the occasion as they dressed to the nines.
From formal to traditional gear, it was all at display.
Some men played it safe and wore black suits, while a few like rural development and agrarian reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane put some effort into their attire. He was by far the best dressed male MPL with his Chinese-designed outfit.
Another male colleague who was on point was the man handling the provincial purse, Sakhumzi Somyo. However, the same cannot be said about the rest of their peers.
Some of them really needed image consultants to advise them not to wear oversized suits – like the one worn by education MEC Mandla Makupula.
Their female counterparts, as usual, were on point. The effort they put in to preparing for the day did not go unnoticed.
It was a battle of the hats and shades between social development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi, Dr Phumza Dyantyi of the health department and Thandiswa Marawu of roads and public works.
Weziwe Tikana of transport and safety and liaison and Helen SaulsAugust of human settlements kept it simple in red and blue dresses respectively.
