- By ROSS ROCHE

FISHING enthusiasts from around the region will be descending on the Qolora Mouth this weekend for the annual Trennerys Rock and Surf fishing competition.

The event, presented by Trennerys, along with Bilimoria Fishing Tackle, is set to bring more than one hundred anglers to the area for the seventh edition of the popular competition that even draws people from as far afield as Pretoria.

A prize pool of R35 000 in all is guaranteed for the competition, including the grand prize of R5 000 for the biggest edible fish caught on the day, along with a whole host of other prizes.

At least 156 anglers are expected to take part in an exciting day of fishing that should see some great catches made. Adding to the occasion is that this year marks Trennerys 90th birthday.

The main day of fishing action takes place today, with anglers setting out as early as 5.30am, with the competition scheduled to end by 6.30pm this evening.

The South Africa Protea Fishing Organisation length/weight calculation will be used and bait will be available for purchase.

The organisers also encourage tag and release.

Prize categories on the day are: biggest kob, biggest steenbras, biggest bream, heaviest bag – all species. The fish of the day will be decided by the general manager. There will also be a prize for the biggest edible fish.
