Breakfast bows out with a donation for schools
FORMER Eastern Cape Correctional Services Commissioner Nkosinathi Breakfast drew the final curtain on a 34year career with an act of goodwill.
He officiated when the department donated 100 desks and 100 chairs to high schools in King William’s Town and Stutterheim on Thursday last week.
The initiative is part of the department’s crime prevention strategy to encourage pupils in disadvantaged areas to stay in school.
“We hope this will create a conducive environment for pupils to excel in classrooms. When you have proper desks and chairs, pupils are encouraged to carry on with their studies and not seek criminal activities. It is a fact,” he said.
AMS Sityana High in King William’s Town and Kubusie Combined School in Stutterheim were each recipients of 50 new desks and 50 new chairs.
While managing unruly inmates and departmental woes were part of his job, Breakfast said he had enjoyed social responsibility work the most.
“I enjoyed programmes where we educated people about a lot of things. It is a fact that when education rises, criminal activities reduce,” said Breakfast.
He thanked the department, the community and his colleagues for what he described as an eventful 34 years. “Now it is my time to spend some time with my family. I have served and done my duty in the department and it is time for me to serve and do my duty for my family,” he said. —
