EAST London motorsport fanatics are gearing up to welcome nearly 3 600 horses worth of machinery as round four of the Sasol GTC Championships heads to the coastal town this weekend.

With three Port Elizabeth drivers occupying the top five spots on the championship table, round four will be action-packed as the local contingent looks to maintain their spots in the top echelons of the championship.

Engen Audi driver Simon Moss aims to cement his place atop the championship which he has held since round two at Killarney International Raceway in April.

He currently leads the standings with 121 points after the first three rounds. Hot on the Engen Audi’s heels is Sasol GTC Racing Team’s Gennaro Bonafede with 118 points while Moss teammate Michael Stephen closes out the top three positions on 115 points

“It’s been going really well for me so far and the season has provided us with some great racing,” says Moss.

“I grabbed pole position last year at the East London Grand Prix track and I’m aiming to do the same this time around,” Moss added.

His teammate Michael Stephen, who currently occupies third position in the championship standings, has his sights set on closing the three-point gap on second place.

“I think, based on our previous races, that Simon and I have executed perfect teamwork and we should be able to accomplish our goal for a 1-2 in the standings,” said Stephen.

“We’re treating the 2018 season on a race-by-race basis while also focusing on the title,” he added.

When he is not behind the wheel of his Engen Audi race car, the twotime defending GTC champion also carries out his role as the Engen Audi Terry Moss Racing team engineer.

Stephen and his crew have done their utmost to prepare the Audis, completing their usual strip-down and rebuild of the cars to ensure they are both in optimum condition come Saturday.

“Our main focus is on the handling and traction in the infield and slow section. We’ve used this time to our fullest advantage in order to ensure maximum preparation for round four,” he said.

Meanwhile, Volkwagen Motorsport driver Daniel Rowe, another PE racer, will be raring to go after powering his Volkswagen Jetta GTC to back-to-back wins at the last two rounds.

Rowe sees the East London circuit as an exciting challenge to be conquered and it wil be interesting to see how he fares.
