See it all at Home Expo
A TOWEL that cools you down, a hair straightener that cleans your hair, square sausages and an ironing board cover that doesn’t burn – these are some of the quirky products for sale at the 18th Your Home Expo, which started at East London’s BKB Building yesterday and runs until Sunday.
When the Daily Dispatch visited the Fitzpatrick Road warehouse that has been transformed into a vibrant hub of décor and design, demonstrators and exhibitors were in full swing showing off their wares.
At the International Deli stand, alongside the cheery coffee shop, Kris Rostowski was handing out bite-sized samples of an impressive range of Italian, Spanish, Polish and German salamis and sausages that he makes in his Benoni garage.
“My garage is the same temperature as Italy where Parma ham is made,” he explained. With Father’s Day on Sunday, Rostowski is offering a special of a breadboard, knife and the customer’s selection of salamis for just R100.
Hairstylist Matthew Botha presided over the glamorous Jean Pierre stand, where he was using charm and free demonstrations to sell steamer hair straighteners, brushes and curling tongs.
“It doesn’t burn hair like an iron, it is a steamer which also cleans and softens hair,” he said.
Celeste Kwete sits people down and massages tired backs with the Roison Complete Body Massager and its seven attachments, while across the walkway Kameren Singh attaches a Circulution acupuncture pad to a painful spot and explains the benefits of the tingly, relaxing massage.
For children who have birthdays coming up, there is the Lumo Colour Fun Track, while the sporty can invest in a microfiber Chillax towel, which gets cool after dipped in water and shaken out.
“It is ideal for joggers and gymers, as well as women who get hot flushes,” said Engela Reinstorf.
● The Your Home Expo runs from 10am to 5pm daily until Sunday. Tickets cost R45 for adults, R25 for pensioners and R15 for scholars. —
