Funeral home steps in for family

Amalinda Forest resident Nombulelo Maxazana is a relieved woman after finally saying a proper farewell to her late niece Sisonke Mtsundushe.

Her 25-year-old niece’s funeral was postponed three times due to a payment row with the funeral home to whom she said she was making regular monetary contributions.

The funeral was postponed three times after the funeral home delayed the payout.

Another service provider, Makinana Funeral Services, came to the family’s aid and offered to organise the funeral free of charge.

“We saw how much the family was suffering and grieving when they came to my offices to ask for assistance.

“They had just lost a loved one and had not been treated with kindness or sympathy so we felt the only right thing to do was to help in any way possible,” said Makinana Funeral Services founder and director, Mandla Phakamile Makinana.

The funeral home provided storage of the body, a coffin, transport of the deceased, flowers for the burial – and extras free of charge.

“I really feel for this family. Losing a loved one is a very difficult thing to go through,” Makinana said.

Maxazana, who was a mother to her niece after both parents passed away , said: “Our own funeral parlour gave us no reasons or excuses [for the delays}.”

The family have still not received their policy payout.

“I honestly don’t know who I would have gone to if Mr Makinana had not helped us.

“I am very grateful that he did,” said Maxazana.
