Singer-songwriter Jesse Clegg will be closing the Wild Coast Jikeleza Route Festival this Sunday when he brings his national tour to the C Club.

The festival has been running since last week Friday and featured numerous activities taking place around Chintsa. The C Club will also be hosting Ard Matthews on Saturday.

Clegg’s performance will be part of his national winter tour, which he started in Cape Town on Wednesday. He made his musical debut in 2008 with the album When I Wake Up, which was greeted with open arms countrywide.

After the acclaim for his first album, Clegg’s music caught the attention of three-time Grammy-winning Canadian producer David Bottrill.

He moved to Toronto for four months to work with Bottrill, who produced his second album, Life on Mars, which was released in 2012.

Speaking with the Daily Dispatch, Clegg said he was looking forward to making his debut performance at the C Club this Sunday.

“The last time I was in East London was last year in December at Emerald Vale [Brewery] and we had such an amazing time there.

“East London people always come to shows with such passion, and as a performer you can’t help but enjoy playing for them,” he said.

Clegg said he was currently in the conceptualising phase of his fourth studio album.

“After my 2016 release I’ve been focusing on writing.

“I spent a month in Los Angeles, where I was doing some writing and production work with some American producers,” he said.

He believes in writing as many songs as possible before coming up with a concept and title for the album.

“The songs will decide what kind of vibe we are doing with the album.”

For his Sunday gig, Clegg said he is taking the acoustic, unplugged route.

“I enjoy doing acoustic shows because they give me time to interact,” he said.

Tickets for the show cost R150 and are available at Computicket and at the C Club.
