ANC homes in on Bhisho fleet

- ROCHELLE DE KOCK

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has called for a review of government’s fleet management service, saying it should form a standalone entity that services the Bhisho government departments and municipalities.

This was one of a number of resolutions coming from the party’s provincial lekgotla held on Sunday to Tuesday.

All decisions taken at the lekgotla will go to the provincial cabinet for further discussion and refinement, ANC provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi said in a statement.

Some of the other resolutions coming from the gathering in East London were:

● Cleaning and catering services must be insourced for next term of administration;

● Government must speed up the recruitment of more social workers to deal with the rising levels of distressed communities in the province;

● The scholar transport contract should be extended to 2020;

● Security services must be insourced at all provincial government departments and municipalities;

● They called for Community Policing Forum members to be paid stipends and for more police officers to be recruited;

● Master plans must be developed for the six economic priority areas;

● The provincial cabinet must set up an inter-ministerial team, led by the premier, to coordinate and drive all catalytic and mega projects for the province;

● Provincial Treasury must set up monitoring mechanisms to focus on the expenditure patterns of all the municipalities and provincial government departments to avoid unnecessary budget roll-overs; and

● Government leaders and senior administrators must be subjected to lifestyle audits in a bid to curb corruption.
