Avela Ndlabhu and Siwive Gogo emerged as the heroes of the young Destiny team upsetting their more experience­d opponents in the Beacon Bay B side.

Ndlabhu and Gogo edged past Grant Stuart and Sheila Smith in a final set tiebreaker. They continued in this vein when they came from behind after dropping the first set against Gary Thorne and Hanlie Mare to emerge victorious at 2-6 6-1 (9-7).

President of Tennis Buffalo City, Neil Naidoo, partnered by Kelly Oberem, fell to their more experience­d opponents making the final tally 7-4.

Alfa and Old Boys fought a battle royal in a tightly contested drawn encounter.

Sam Townes and Jenny Milne edged past Lester Barkhuysen and the never-say-die Joy Brits before running out the victors at 7-6 7-5. They followed this up with a 6-3 6-4 win over Tony Brits and Kim O’Leary.

The Jason Bezuidenho­ut/ Lorna Grotjohn coupling lost to the Barkhuysen/J Brits duo at

3-6 6-7.

Bezuidenho­ut and Grotjohn fought tooth and nail before succumbing to Tony Brits and O’Leary at 4-6 6-4 6-7 (6-8).

Gonubie found the strong Beacon Bay A team a hard nut to crack.

Ryan Armstrong and Cherie Biggs ran out 6-2 6-2 victors against Gareth Fray and Gill van Niekerk. The Gonubie pair put up strong resistance in the first set against the hard-hitting combinatio­n of young Dylan Smith and Cindy Taylor before succumbing 4-6 2-6.

Both Beacon Bay couples triumphed over Steve Wood and Nadene Rousseau.

In the second league the Old Boys team of Oliver Ciganek, Dave Bartlett, Alison Baxter and Di Harraway gained a 7-4 victory over Beacon Bay’s Kirk and Ethan Gibbon, Clare van der Walt and Katherine Mildenhall.

Gonubie continued their fine form in the third league scoring their third full-house in defeating Stirling 11-1, while Destiny beat Buffalo Flats Khoisan without the loss of a set.
