Rematch ups the excitement level

Rivals Lindile Tshemese and Athi Dumezweni will come face to face on Thursday at the premedical at Mdantsane Fitness Joint ahead of their highly anticipated rematch on Sunday.

The pair will collide for the second time for the vacant SA junior-bantamweight title following their dramatic clash in December 2016.

This when Tshemese trailing on points entering the last round produced a referee influenced stoppage win to retain the title.

Tshemese landed a damaging punch despite the referee calling for a break and followed up with three more to knock out Dumezweni and saved his title in dramatic last-gasp effort.

He later surrendered the title to fellow Duncan Village boxer Yanga Sigqibo, who has since relinquished it, paving a way for him to get a chance to regain it. After the defeat, Dumezweni who was trained by his uncle Mthetho in Mthatha, relocated to Johannesburg to train under Damean Durandt who is the son of the late Nick Durandt.

There was contention before the fight came to being when Tshemese lodged a protest with Boxing South Africa for mandating eighth ranked KwaZuluNatal boxer Thulani Gumede to battle it out with Dumezweni for the title.

On reviewing the mandate, BSA subsequently approved Tshemese to face Dumezweni in a fight that has become bigger than the original GumedeDumezweni clash.

The fight will also serve as the coronation of former boxer Macbute Sinyabi as a promoter as he will make his promotional debut under his MMT Promotions.

The fight at Mdantsane Indoor Centre is expected to be packed to the rafters with enthusiastic boxing fans.
