EC film fest for Makhanda
Aimed at aspiring as well as professional filmmakers, the Eastern Cape film festival will host its fourth film festival in Makhanda (previously known as Grahamstown) from December 1 to 6.
The festival will be held in association with the Eastern Cape Performing Arts and Culture Council, the Industrial Development Corporation and the department of sports, recreation, arts & culture.
It will take place at the New English Literary Museum.
The theme is “Home of Legends”. According to festival director Nceba Mqolomba, the event is meant to bring South African enthusiasts together to explore how the film industry can help to create jobs, even as it opens up ways for the nation to celebrate its heritage.
“Filmmakers, professional and aspirant, as well as industry experts will be there to participate in conversations, and enjoy screenings and networking,” said Mqolomba.
It was all about establishing film in the Eastern Cape as a flourishing economic sector, she added.
The focus will be on locally produced films, including documentaries, short films, student films, videos and music.
Workshops are free and will be given by industry professionals teaching areas such as script writing, acting, sound and producing.
Artists attending include
stars Nasiphi Ntabeni, who plays Cebisa; Soso Rungqu, who plays Morongwa, and Yonda Thomas (Detective Majola).
“We want to position the Eastern Cape as a preferred film destination. The province has a rich history and heritage with beautiful locations, beautiful people and lots of stories to be told. All these are ideal material for groundbreaking film productions.
“We are looking for local content. So please, if you want your film to be screened at the festival, send it to us as soon as possible,” said Mqolomba.
