47 dead as two buses collide on Zimbabwe highway
Forty-seven people were killed in Zimbabwe when two buses collided between Harare and the eastern town of Rusape late on Wednesday.
“We confirm 47 people died at the 166km peg on the HarareMutare highway,” police spokesman Paul Nyathi said.
The state-run Herald newspaper tweeted that pictures from the scene were too graphic to post. The morgue in Rusape ran out of space and appealed a private funeral parlour.
Deputy transport minister Fortune Chasi said the state would take steps to curb the road carnage.
“Totally needless loss of lives. This event should be the last before stern measures are taken,” he tweeted, promising to rein in public transport
