ANCYL lashes out at NEC over lack of mobilisation of youth

The ANC Youth League in the Eastern Cape has lashed out at its national bosses, saying they have derailed its efforts to mobilise young people for next year’s elections.

This is because the young lions will go to the general and provincial polls with a task team as it could not convene an elective conference.

The ANCYL national executive commitee (NEC) disbanded the provincial structure two years ago, after they publicly called for then president Jacob Zuma to resign.

ANCYL chairperson in the Nyandeni sub-region in OR Tambo Melikhaya Mcitwa said the postponement of a provincial congress translated to loss of strength.

“We all know that the highest number of voters are young people. The manner in which the NEC has handled the Eastern Cape means we are going to be seen as weak. It’s a problem that we have expressed and they do not seem to care at national level,” he said.
