Two die in EC road accidents
Two people reportedly lost their lives on Eastern Cape roads at the weekend after succumbing to injuries sustained in car accidents.
One accident occurred outside East London on Saturday afternoon, and the second at Nontshinga village in Centane on Saturday evening.
A 35-year-old male died on the R72 at the Kidd’s Beach intersection after his motorbike smashed into the back of a truck and caught fire. Transport department spokesperson Unathi Binqose said: “It is alleged that a truck was coming out of Kidd’s Beach, turning towards [the] East London direction.
“The motorbike was coming from Port Alfred.
“The man riding the motorbike died instantly.”
Binqose said a charge of culpable homicide had been opened for investigation, which would determine the cause of death and the person responsible for the accident.
Another case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Centane police after a 29year-old man was fatally wounded in a single-car accident at 9pm.
Binqose said the cause of the accident was still unknown as no other vehicle or stray animal was involved in the crash.
“The man, who was a passenger, was fatally wounded at the scene.
“The driver of the bakkie sustained injuries and was rushed to Butterworth hospital.”
