Bourse boosted by global eq­uity rally

The JSE capped its best week in two months on Fri­day, boosted by a global eq­uity rally ear­lier in the week.

On Fri­day, the all-share climbed 0.72% to 53,653.4 points and the top-40 0.69%. Food and drug re­tail­ers gained 1.41%, in­dus­tri­als 0.9% and gen­eral re­tail­ers 0.89%. The all­share gained 2.78% for the week.

Pep­kor added 2.8% to R22, Dis-Chem 2.18% to R29.51 and Shoprite 1.6% to R192.97. AB InBev gained 3.78% to R1,004.57, after Bloomberg re­ported it is con­sid­er­ing sep­a­rately list­ing its Asian op­er­a­tions.

Naspers gained 1.04% to R2,984.75. Trad­ing ex div­i­dend Sappi fell 1.43% to R75.60.

At 9.50am the rand was flat at R13.84/$ and at R17.64/£. It was 0.14% weaker at R15.95/€.
