Chippa out to collect points

- VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

Chippa United coach Clinton Larsen is continuing on his mission to collect maximum points in an attempt to lift his side from the bottom for of the Absa Premiership.

The Port Elizabethbased soccer side play Free State Stars at Goble Park, in Bethlehem, on Saturday (6pm).

Ahead of the game Larsen said he would not be making any strategic changes.

“With away games the strategy is the same. It’s always to try and be solid defensively and get a positive result,” said the former Bloemfontein Celtic mentor.

“The team struggled in the first round of the league with getting points away from home. Every point that we put on the board is a point towards safety, so for us a positive result is all that we are looking for.

“We have come here to try and get maximum points but sometimes football throws you curve balls and the worst case scenario is we want a draw.

“But we have come here to try and win the match. We want to try and get results against all the basement dwellers.”

Larsen said games like these were very important for the team and a win against Stars will present the club with an opportunity to be placed ahead of Baroka, who are above them on the log.

“There is a lot to play for in terms of us progressing up the table.

“Every team has weaknesses, Chippa does and every other team in the league does.

“Those are the things we are trying to analyse and try to capitalise on. I do not want to publicly speak about what they are but yes we have noticed areas where we think we can capitalise on and hopefully we will be able to execute that.”

Chippa have had a good run since Larsen stepped in as head coach.

The Chilli Boys are unbeaten in three matches with their most recent result being a 1-1 draw away to Baroka.

They are currently 14th on the log with 16 points.
