Scores evacuated after Singapore hotel blast

Hundreds of people were evacuated on Thursday from a hotel in downtown Singapore after explosions started a fire in a room containing electrical equipment, causing blackouts in nearby buildings. The Carlton Hotel said the incident – rare for hyper-safe and -efficient Singapore – was not terror-related and there were no injuries.

After the blasts and blaze, smoke could be seen wafting from the back of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigat­ion.
