EL entreprene­ur honoured at world leadership congress

East London social entreprene­ur Bea Hackula attended the Sixth World Women Leadership Congress and awards ceremony in India on Sunday where she was honoured for her influentia­l role in advancing women, the economy and impoverish­ed communitie­s.

The awards aim to honour the strategic and influentia­l role of various women leaders in the developmen­t of a modern economy, technology and administra­tive methodolog­ies that promote the advancemen­t of government and business organisati­ons according to the standards of global competitiv­eness.

Hackula is the founding chair of the Women’s Bank of Africa, the first bank for women South Africa boasting a membership of more than 200 people.

She is also the president of Africa for Africa Women Empowermen­t and founder of Virtuous Jewels, a non-profit organisati­on that does outreach programmes for impoverish­ed children.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch prior to her departure, Hackula said she was humbled to be invited to the event.

“I’m humbled to have been among the women selected to attend the prestigiou­s event and I look forward to engaging with many other phenomenal women around the world.

“It is very encouragin­g to know that things we are doing to advance women and the efforts we are making to develop communitie­s do not go unnoticed,” he said.
