Man linked to murder sought
The police have for the first time named Ayanda “Mpiriri” Matika as a person of interest in the killing of East London businesswoman Busisiwe Ngwadla.
The 37-year-old victim was found lying in a pool of blood in front of her bathroom door at the Emerald Sky flats in Amalinda last month.
The police would not say if the 50-year-old Matika was a suspect in the matter, only saying they believed he could assist with the investigation.
The woman’s brother Thabo said the two had been dating.
A recording of a man purportedly confessing to killing a woman he had been dating surfaced days after Ngwadla was stabbed to death.
Police said they were investigating the authenticity of the recording
Police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi on Wednesday told the Daily Dispatch: “We are not saying he is the suspect at the moment, but we believe he will assist with our investigation.”
Thabo claimed that Matika had been seen wandering around Gugulethu in Cape Town a day after the incident and the family believe he may be in the Western Cape.
Mbi appealed to anyone who might know where Matika is to contact the investigation officer, Detective-Sergeant Lwazi Benya, on 083-329-5348 or at the Cambridge police station on 043-709-7500.
“All information will be treated in strict confidentiality,” he said.
