Greeff duo to fight out Fillies Nursery

- Dispatch Racing Editor

TRAINER Alan Greeff looks set to win the East Cape Fillies Nursery (Listed) over 1 200m at Fairview tomorrow.

He sends out Brandina and Mendocino, who will have Greg Cheyne and Aldo Domeyer in the irons respectively. Both of them have excellent winning chances.

The vote goes to Mendocino, who won her second start in fine style for owners Messrs CG & LF Scribante. On that occasion she scored a runaway victory of 4,50 lengths, beating Captain Anne Bonny over 1 200m. Domeyer retains the ride and looks set for victory number two.

However, Brandina is not out of it.

She won two of her first three starts and was impressive in her last start when she defeated Great Achievement by two lengths.

Their biggest dangers seems to be Western Cape raider Chasing Green, who will have MJ Byleveld in the saddle for trainer Dan Katz, and Scarborough Fair, who will be ridden by Ryan Munger for the Sharon Kotzen stable.

Chasing Green ran second in her debut run at Kenilworth, while Scarborough Fair finished second and third in her first two races.

Im Global and Just Amazing can finish in the money.

Trainer Gavin Smith and jockey Richard Fourie form a strong combination for tomorrow.

Fourie rides Hooves Of Troy in Race 1 and looks set for a massive duel with Alan Greeff’s Viking Moon, who will have regular pilot Cheyne in the irons.

Both horses won their first races with Viking Moon probably the more impressive.

Fourie also has a strong chance in Race 2 when he rides Fashion Force for owner Morne Struwig. It will be the former Western Cape runner’s second outing for the Smith yard.

In her first PE outing she finished third, 4.75 lengths behind Alphabet Street. Fashion Force looks set for huge improvement and looks hard to beat.

The Pick 6 once again looks tricky, but Ruby Two Shoes and Generous Guy should see punters through in Race 4, which is the second leg of this exotic. Mendocino and Brandina should also be enough to cover bettors in Race 7.

The eight-race card gets under way at 1300 with a Juvenile Plate for two-yearolds over 1 000m.
