Men against violence
Your story “Students Fear Campus Crime” (DD, April 16) refers. The rape of students by fellow students is terrible. Tertiary students are expected to be future parents and leaders.
What values will they be transmitting to their own children and communities? How are they going to advance and protect children and women?
It is a disgrace to discover a learning institution being not respected, and casts a doubt as to whether some of those admitted are genuine learners.
Communities have a duty to remind students about the purpose of their presence there. Dialogues should be held within campuses to establish the reasons for men being aggressive towards the fairer sex.
Similar dialogues were held at John Knox Bhokwe and Buffalo City TVET Colleges in February by the department of social development in conjunction with NGOs such as Men For Change and Masithethe.
As men we can't afford to be seen as perpetuating the violence. – Mzimasi Bebeza, via e-mail
