Little does just enough

The Buffalo City men’s singles league got off to a fine start in perfect weather.

In the first league the two teams from each of Old Boys and Beacon Bay locked horns to start the ball rolling.

In the Old Boys A clash against Beacon Bay B, Ryan Little used his greater experience to topple the younger Sam McQuirk with the loss of only one game in each set.

Sam Townes and the newlywed Ryan Armstrong fought a battle royale before Townes put Old Boys 2-0 up with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Little and Townes used their greater experience as an established doubles combination to ease past their opponents with the loss of only two games giving their side an 8-1 victory.

In the Beacon Bay A-Old Boys B clash Charles Wheeler used his greater experience to defeat Jo, the youngest of the Townes brothers, 6-2, 6-2. Jean Coetzee had to fight tooth and nail against Sebastian Hensberg before coming from behind to register a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory to put Beacon Bay 2-1 up. The doubles went to the Beacon Bay pair at 7-6, 6-1 making the final score 8-1.

There were three fixtures in the B league.

At this early stage it would appear that Omega will be the team to beat. Marcel Booysen and Malvory Isaacs allowed the Buffalo Flats B side of Ricardo Smith and Selwyn Daniels a mere three games in the six sets played to register a 8-0 victory.

Equally ruthless was the Destiny B team of Nikhil Naidoo and Thina Ndlabhu who defeated the Buffalo Flats A side of Lincoln and Whiton Daniels 80. Thabo Gwegwana emerged as the hero of the Destiny A team when he registered a good victory over Beacon Bay’s Stephen Wood. Alan Mildenhall levelled scores when he beat Simanya Majeke. Beacon Bay won the doubles to make the final score 6-2.
